NO, IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FOR YOU TO GET YOUR FLU VACCINE!!

Well, it's that time of year which means not only giving gifts and eating good but also tis' the season for cold and flu. I had the pleasure of dishing with Dr. Yabo both a Mom and Pediatrician regarding the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC's), efforts to raise awareness about the importance of you, yes you (me too), getting your flu vaccine. The effort is an annual one for the CDC however this year they are lending increased awareness during National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW). Additionally, the CDC is embracing social media and partnering with Bloggers to get the word out. I was all aboard when invited to participate. Oh, and did you know the risk of getting the flu is that much higher for pregnant women and children under 5?

I was particularly touched by Dr. Yabo's efforts to lend a voice as I am a Mommy myself of 7 year old twins and a 9 year old. To put it simply, I don't play with the flu. I literally just reminded my children's Father a couple of weeks ago regarding the fact that they needed to get their flu shots. He promptly scheduled an appointment and they were in and out having been administered a standard dose of the vaccine in the form of a nasal spray which per the CDC is approved for healthy, non-pregnant people ages 2-49. And for all you Mommy's, the nasal spray is ideal because it's quick and it's painless so no crying or runny noses. It's so customary now; my kids actually look forward to it. Dr. Yabo sees first-hand the consequences of not getting vaccinated. A big misconception is that it's too late to get the flu vaccine. Unbeknownst to me, flu season does not typically peak until January or later and lasts up until May. The vaccine takes about two weeks to get into your system which means getting vaccinated now will still afford you protection. Other common misconceptions can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/misconceptions.htm.
  • The flu vaccine does not give you the flu. The vaccine is actually meant to trick your body into thinking it has the flu thus providing full protection. Side effects such as a fever or sore arm are common. Your Physician should instruct you as to what to look for. You can find more here.
  • It is absolutely necessary to get vaccinated every year. The flu virus changes from year to year and the vaccine matches the virus thus providing the best protection.
  • Even if you've already had a bout of the flu this season, you can still benefit from getting vaccinated. If you've had it once, you surely don't want to risk getting it again and potentially spreading to other members of your family.
  • You have many more options as far as where you can get the vaccine which includes not just your Physician's office but Health Departments, local clinics, retail stores and pharmacies. And most don't even require an appointment. No wait time. You can get in and get out.
Now is as good a time as any. As we all gather together with family for the Holidays and travel to and fro, you nor I want to miss out on the festivities surely nor put ourselves at risk for either getting sick or getting someone else sick by spreading the flu virus. Your best defense, get vaccinated now.

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) runs from December 8-14, 2013. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov/flu/nivw. And you can follow on twitter @CDCFlu

Have you and/or your children been vaccinated? If not and if I may, what are you waiting for?

Happy Holidays!!

(I'M ON) STYLEBLAZER.COM AND (IN) WE MAGAZINE ...TWO FEATURES IN ONE WEEK!

I'll take that! I would be remiss if I didn't claim to be not just totally thrilled but completely humbled at having scored two features this week. The first of which is the Entrepreneur Spotlight in the December issue of the ever empowering, ever elevating, ever inspiring WE Magazine during which I dish here on how I came up with the concept that is BagLadiesRadio.com and how I maintain authenticity. Additionally, an exclusive Curl Talk feature published here to the #1 Fashion Obsession, StyleBlazer.com. Yes, I as are alot of fashion junkies, totally obsessed with StyleBlazer.com. I dished with Adrienne Gadling of IAmSadiddy.com fame about being natural and the misconceptions that come with, second go around having locs and my product faves.

Thanks much to WE Magazine E-I-C, DeLisha Sylvester and Adrienne Gadling for just making me love her that much more. Oh, and she authored a great piece too (smirk). It's definitely nice to be acknowledged and validated by my peers. Just makes me grind that much harder. And s/o to Tiffany Josephs, one of the best Photogs I know. Remember my behind-the-scenes post here from our shoot? Without her accompanying image, these two features wouldn't be half as fab.

Subscribe to WE Magazine and StyleBlazer.com and please be sure to share your comments on what you thought of each feature. I'd love to see your feedback! Thanks as always for the support!

Happy Holidays!!

#TBT: HOLIDAY EDITION #KMARTTHENNOW

Today kicks off what will be an on-going #TBT series. I and Kmart are taking you on a stroll down memory lane. Wanna go?? I and some Blogger buds are pulling out the old albums, treasure chests and memory boxes and digging for old Holiday pictures. You know the ones in which you and me too were sporting trends (sometimes against our will; Mommy made me), that were not only hot then but also now. You know that every style/trend comes full circle ...

I hit my Mommy up during Thanksgiving and not only was I totally oohing and aahing over never before seen pics of her, my Dad and my Stepdad but also adorable pictures of my Brothers and I. For this edition of #TBT: #KmartThenNow, I chose to show myself in my first ever Holiday pic at barely 3 months old. And get this, the pic per my Mom was actually taken at Kmart back in the day. Upon hitting Kmart.com, I found a similar fit (what is that velvet?!), in a matching color scheme that would be adorable on either of my girls ages 7 and 9. I haven't yet decided which one of them will score.
Left: Me all decked out in Holiday wear. Note the red velvet bottoms / Right: Girl's Velvet Holiday Dress
Can you tell which pic is from then and which is current? I jest. Now the challenge! I and Kmart want you to share your then and now pics too. Find an old Holiday pic of yourself and either post a side by side look of your little one wearing a similar look (most applicable to Mommies) or find a similar look either in store at Kmart or on Kmart.com and share, share, share! Until I say stop! For a chance to win a Kmart gift card just in time for the Holidays. Who couldn't use a few extra dollars this season? So get to digging up those old flicks and get to sharing across all platforms. You can tag me on Twitter and Instagram @bagladies. But whatever you do and to score that giftcard, be sure to attach the hashtag #KmartThenNow.

I'M FEATURED IN THE DECEMBER '13 ISSUE OF WE MAGAZINE

Thank you to CEO & Founder DeLisha Sylvester and the rest of the Women's Elevation (WE) magazine team for featuring me in the December 2013 issue.

WE magazine focuses on promotion, inspiration and elevation of women who have started their own business or brand and the challenges that they face.

Chatting with DeLisha was not only a privilege but an awesome opportunity to reflect on how far I've come since having launched BagLadiesRadio.com and furthermore, where I ultimately want to go from here.

Hopefully my sharing my story testimony inspires someone else to just ...Do it! See below the full article:

Foodie Friday: The Best Recipe I Found on Pinterest This Week

Pinterest is where I go when I want to be inspired, when I want ideas and if I need a creative escape. Or simply, if I'm just bored. Oh and hungry too! Besides fashion and beauty, dishes and recipes are my faves to pin and repin. We are right on the heels of Thanksgiving and if nothing else, I always contribute the eggnog ...Spiked for sure. I came across this recipe for Peppermint Eggnog Punch and of all the recipes pinned this week, this one pinned to my Tis' The Season board is my fave and I can't wait to give it a go. The pic by itself is swoon-worthy and the directions are simple enough. Check back with me after Thanksgiving to see if I pulled it off.

ingredients
  • 1 quart  peppermint ice cream
  • 1 quart  dairy eggnog or canned eggnog
  • 1 cup  rum (optional)
  • 1 - 210  ounce bottles  (1-1/4 to 2-1/2 cups)ginger ale, chilled
  •  Additional peppermint ice cream (optional)
  •  Peppermint sticks (optional)
I'm most intrigued by what flavors the peppermint ice cream and ginger ale will lend. Be sure to follow me on Pinterest at pinterest.com/bagladiesradio.

Do you pin? Do you have any fave recipes? Oh and what do you contribute to Thanksgiving dinner?

#MOMMYMIDDAY: "HERE, FEEL FABKIDS FOR YOURSELF"

Those were my exact words to a friend this past weekend who paid me a visit. Upon opening a FabKids delivery and sifting through the outfits I selected for my three children, my friend asked me for feedback on the quality of FabKids apparel. I handed her one of my sons shirts and literally said, "here, feel it for yourself." Most of us have likely experienced poor quality apparel. Sometimes in the form of ripped seams, hanging threads, loose fitting buttons or just the overall texture and fabric is just awful. I told her how long I've been shopping with FabKids and what I love mostly which is:
  • Quality
  • Staying current and on trend with what's hot in kids fashion both in prints and colors
  • Product selection
  • Quick turnaround
  • Complete head-to-toe outfit
I told my friend I've never had a problem with the quality. The pieces are multi-purpose. The fabric from denim jeans to cotton leggings and embellished dresses are durable. The pieces wash well with no extra care necessary (don't have to hand wash) and the styles are absolutely adorable. We talked about how comparable FabKids is to other children's fashion brands but at a cost effective price point and it's a complete look which totally eliminates the guess work. FabKids was started by Parents including Actress, Christina Applegate. Click here to listen to the on-air dish I had with Head Designer, Denise Kalinowski. All you need do is set up a style profile at FabKids.com for your child or in my case, children and each month new looks are styled which you can pick and choose from and get a head-to-toe look for $39.95. But get this, there is no obligation to buy so you can skip a month whenever you so choose but the likelihood that you will do that is rare. The pieces are so adorable I sometimes wish the pieces came in adult sizes. But what I most love is that the looks consist of three pieces. I do mix and match the pieces. Tis' The Season! I'm most excited about the Holiday styles on sale now for both boys and girls. Check out a few of my faves:
Holiday Brocade Skirt
Holiday Print Dress
Holiday Velvet Blazer
Plaid Trousers
What do you think of the Holiday styles? Would you like shopping for your child or children to be easier?

-- Erin
(Disclaimer: I am a FabMom. I was initially turned onto FabKids by having been solicited to sample pieces for editorial purposes.)

BeautyTalk: CND Vinylux REALLY Delivers Week-Long Wear Without Chipping!

Actually more than week-long wear. I'm making an effort to tighten up aka save money if you will as the Holiday season is fastly approaching (I feel the anxiety building). So when it comes to my #NailSwag, I opted per my last visit to my Nail Stylist, Mikal Brannum, to go with a regular manicure instead of a gel manicure. Why you ask? Because it's cheaper! I was very skeptical however because regular manicures typically last no longer than 24-48 hours before the chipping and cracking sets in. And most times I'm left asking why did I even bother.

Seaside Party #146, Rubble #144, Purple Purple #138
Upon my last #NailSwag visit, my Stylist introduced me to CND's Vinylux. After telling her I wanted to keep it tame, she recommended three colors of which I had never tried. My nails, the same as my outfit choices are a total reflection of my mood. The colors I liked but I was admittedly skeptical about the lasting power. My Stylist gave me the spiel about Vinylux affording week-long wear and after posting a pic to my Instagram @bagladies, one of my followers actually endorsed the week-long wear so I said what the heck.

This top is the before pic. I almost didn't have my Stylist do any sort of design thinking what's the point because this will be chipping in no time but before I could stop her, she was already having her way and designing an ikat style print.
Right Hand
Left Hand

And now the "after." What do you think? And mind you, this is actually not 7 days but 9 days later! Minus slight chipping, I've never had a manicure last this long yet still look this good. Additionally, the finish is smooth and flawless. The pic doesn't do the colors justice. There's none of that brittleness that I sometimes get with other brands and exposure to natural light actually ensures a better seal. The self-adhering color coat actually reduces the drying time so once done, I didn't have to wait around for eons for the polish to dry. I was able to reach into my bag and grab my keys with absolutely no smudging. The Vinylux system enhances durability and builds a resistance to chips.

CND Vinylux offers 62 fashion colors straight from the runway to you ...And me too! Which color shall I choose next? I guess you will just have to wait and see!

How often to you get your #nailswag on? Do you rock a regular manicure? How long does your manicure last before chipping?

Foodie Friday: Featuring A "Me-Approved" Foodie Quote

Julia Child
This week's Foodie Friday is in the form of an inspirational quote from the late Julia Child. What do you think of the "me-approved" quote? Have you ever seen the movie, Julie and Julia released by Sony Pictures in 2009 and starring Meryl Streep? It's very good. It's all about how Julia Child (remember her), made a name for herself as a chef/cook and a Blogger who spent like a year attempting all her recipes. The movie includes a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch with Dan Akroyd mocking Julia Child's voice and tendencies. If you are my age (I ain't telling how old I am), you surely remember Julia Child shows from like PBS or some other network back in the day. She had a VERY distinct voice. I remember my Grandmother and babysitter used to watch her cooking show regularly.
Anyway, are you a foodie? And does this quote apply to you? It does me and on that note, Happy Foodie Friday!

Foodie Friday: Featuring "The Diva Chef", Madison Shannon Kelly #ImAFoodie

Today marks the launch of Foodie Friday, a recurring feature chronicling my #ImAFoodie tales. I like to eat good. I love to dine out. I adore discovering new cuisine and/or hidden gems. And I'm often extended invitations for new restaurant openings, product launches, festivals and "foodie" events. So why not dish write about it. I hope to turn you onto something new in the process or at least make you drool.

This week's Foodie Friday features "The Diva Chef" herself, Madison Shannon Kelly. An Atlanta, GA based up and coming chef, Madison is a self-made pastry chef and owner of Diva Delights.

I've known Madison for a couple of years but only recently upon a trip to Atlanta did I have the absolute pleasure of sampling one of her signature treats, Banana Pudding Cheesecake. Not just a pudding but more than a cheesecake, each Banana Pudding Cheesecake is handmade and made from scratch. Per Madison, "it became a top-seller overnight." I now know why. It's the perfect combo. It's light like pudding but less the "richness" of a cheesecake which can sometimes overwhelm the palette resulting in one taking two bites and being done. Whereas Madison's Banana Pudding Cheesecake can easily be polished in one sitting.

I devoured that which Madison hand-delivered to my hotel with a note as an added personal touch, for breakfast while preparing to depart Atlanta. Each "delight" is clearly both made and packaged with love. The graham cracker crust was a pleasant surprise and so moist and sweet. I literally made sure every bite had a bit of crust. As I continued to indulge, I felt like I was treating myself. Of course I deserved it! As I was eating devouring I mean, I noticed a hint of something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Per Madison, "Cinnamon is my secret weapon!" And safe to say it totally breaks the mold of traditional banana pudding. Madison also offers strawberry and oreo cheesecake, red velvet cupcakes with the most adorable packaging I've ever seen, cheese balls and individual salad varieties but it's easy to see how upon ordering the Banana Pudding Cheesecake, customers instantly become regulars. I've been craving more ever since. You can catch a glimpse of Madison's swoon-worthy offerings via her Instagram account @mskenterprises.

Madison is working on her website and expanding her brands. In addition to other endeavors which include a reality show, Stiletto Bosses and new food business, Madison is currently working to open a bakery in Lithonia, GA and authoring her first cookbook, "I can cook, DAMMIT, MARRY ME!", which goes on pre-order November 1st 2013. To inquire about ordering and shipping outside of GA which I'm excited to say Madison now offers (be prepared to get in line behind me), contact Madison at Diva Delights via email at mydivadelight@yahoo.com.

#HeelsToTheWheels: Kia Ride & Drive at #Blogalicious5

Did you know? I'm a bit of an automotive enthusiast. And you better not be thinking, "but you're just a girl." I had a monthly automotive column in the print edition of Sister2Sister for 3 + years. I loved and still love putting my "heels to the wheels" of new cars. I'm not a grease monkey by any stretch but I do love keeping in the know about what automotive brands are doing. How brands are incorporating technology and making vehicles more functional and amongst Bag Ladies Radio listeners, the style of a vehicle is big topic of dish. You know, the aesthetics. The same as I want my heels to make me look good, I want my vehicle to do so also.

One of the most popular events held during #Blogalicious5 was Kia's Ride and Drive. Kia was this year's Blogalicious 2013 Title Sponsor. And for the entirety of the 3-day Blogalicious weekend, Kia made three of their models available. Attendees could literally take their pick and cruise the streets of downtown ATL accompanied by a Kia Motors rep who offered tidbits about the functionality and pointed out key features.

I put #HeelsToTheWheels of the 2014 Kia Sorento. I literally had to ditch my responsibilities as this year's Blogalicious 2013 Social Media Partner for just a bit ...Shhhh. A 2013 Top Safety Pick, the Kia Sorento is extremely spacious with third row seating yet from the exterior, amazingly compact. It definitely has a distinct look and feel that dispels the notion you might otherwise have of Kia. As I navigated the streets of downtown Atlanta with my assigned Kia rep and my backseat driver and friend Dorothy Redmond (an auto enthusiast also), the ride was smooth. The features, fuel economy and size make the 2014 Kia Sorento a world-class crossover.

I particularly loved the Panoramic sunroof with electric sunshade which allowed me to open and close with the push of a button. It was a gorgeous day (see the blue sky and the view was gorgeous. The audio system had me at the first jazz tune. I hadn't gotten my fix while at Blogalicious so to relax to the sounds of some good jazz was heaven for me and come to find out, the accompanying Kia rep was a jazz fiend also and we had good dish regarding some of our fave artists. The Bluetooth, Back-Up Warning System and Push-button start were just a few of the other features which caught my eye. I am always on the go and never not busy so a vehicle which allows me to stay mobile yet not miss a beat and look good too, always lends appeal. And even better at a preferable price point. The 2014 Kia Sorento starts at $24,100.00

I won't name names. But I wasn't the only attendee swooning over Kia
Kia got much love as you can see upon closing out the 2013 Blogalicious weekend with a cocktail reception. I wasn't the only one swooning over their 2014 lineup.

What do you think of Kia? Which Kia vehicle do you like most? Could you see yourself putting #HeelsToTheWheels in the Sorento?

P.S. - Thanks to Kia for the goodie bags. Upon Social Media Manager, Marissa Lorenzo's insistence, I grabbed three bags for my kids. They most love the stuffed animal and the pen/stylus.

#Blogalicious5 Sneak Peek at I'm In Love With A Church Girl Starring Adrienne Bailon

Based on the real-life story of Writer & Producer, Galley Molina, I'm in Love with a Church Girl is a faith-based romantic drama hitting theatres this Friday, October 18th and starring Adrienne Bailon and "Ja Rule" as we all know him but preferable to this film, Jeff Atkins. Had it not been for his image on display, I would not have recognized Ja by his gubment (aka government), name.

Day 3 of #Blogalicious5 kicked off with a very intimate morning Q&A with Adrienne Bailon who most of us know from 3LW and The Cheetah Girls. Also Rob Kardashian's girlfriend and most recently as part of The Real cast.

Adrienne was very candid almost testimonial in a sense about treading her way in the industry and her modest and humble background. But she was also very assured and confident about her efforts to distinguish herself from what we all know her as which is a member of two former girl groups. Thus her lead role in I'm in Love with a Church Girl which is Adrienne's most dramatic film role to date. She is clearly proud of her role in this film. She said "Ja Rule" also brought an unexpected element and the chemistry between the two of them is great and that he really executes the role well. She spoke to her faith and that being what attracted her most to the role.

Tweed, check! Booties, check! Hair, check!
Oh, lest I forget, Adrienne's hair was swoon-worthy "laid" and her tweed mini was too cute paired with hot black leather booties! Totally on trend for fall. Adrienne made a conscious effort to pose for pics on her own time with each and every person in attendance (myself included). I had to put on my paparazzi hat for a minute.

We dined while listening to Adrienne dish on the film and her album in progress. Adrienne also dropped a tidbit about The Real much to my dismay which doesn't appear as though it will be picked up. So surprising. Everyone I know is a fan. But you never know. Adrienne also dropped a bit of news regarding her nail polish line, Fingertip Fetish. I particularly love to dish fashion and beauty so I was hanging on every word regarding this luxury line. I can't wait to try it for myself and rock some #nailswag.

We dined. We dished. And got some goodies too.

After all was said and done, the intimate dish was great and I got some goodies. The dish provided insight into the film which typically you aren't privy to when it comes to new releases. I'm in Love with a Church Girl hits theatres Friday and also stars notables Stephen Baldwin and Vincent Pastore who you may know from Sopranos.  I can't wait to see it. And this is one of my fave quotes of #Surrender from Adrienne's character, Vanessa Leon, "God doesn't care about what you've done in your past, or what you're in the middle of right now. He wants you to come as you are."
For more on the film, the novel and soundtrack visit, www.iminlovewithachurchgirl.com.

Don't you just love Adrienne Bailon? Are you planning to see the movie?

Wells Fargo Made Me Look Good at #Blogalicious5

#Blogalicious5 has now come and gone. I came. I saw. I went for the 3rd time and participating as Social Media partner lent an entirely different perspective to one of the largest annual social media events celebrating diversity in Blogging. Some of my fave moments were both connecting with old friends and making new ones. Blogalicious is non-stop learning and non-stop laughing. The event sponsors further enhance the Blogalicious weekend experience and just foster more opportunities for engagement. Not only did Blogalicious 2013 sponsor Wells Fargo hold one of the liveliest conference events, The Perfect Pitch Contest but they also afforded attendees free head shots. Yes, I said free! If you know anything about the cost of sittings, you know head shots are not cheap. For what was supposed to only be an hour although Photographer, Zach Porter stuck around for far longer, attendees could drop by and get their shot(s) for free!
Nothing can touch the work of my beloved Tiffany Josephs and our recent photo shoot of which I dished about here but to not have had a MUA on deck and no opportunity to touch up my makeup or pull together a more preferable look (call it the vain in me), the shots were great. Of the two, this one is my fave. Zach was great at identifying best angles and making you feel at ease. Thank you Wells Fargo for the take-a-way and for making me look good at #Blogalicious5.

I've tasked myself with catching up on all posts related to the 2013 Blogalicious Weekend experience so hold tight. I had to unplug for a sec upon returning home. But I've got much to share including this year's swag haul. I've barely touched my goodie bag.

Responsible for the complete overhaul of Ebony mag, Amy Dubois-Barnett set the tone for day 2 of Blogalicious 2013 by delivering a candid and honest opening keynote that was less a keynote and more a testimony! Although her fab shoes proved to be a bit distracting, those of us in attendance hung on every word as she shared branding and business insights but most engaging was the personal journey of her life thus far (the good and the bad), and that which she has gained. I was particularly struck by Amy's transparency and vulnerability. She joked while behind the mic even about her hair not being done for such an occasion as if anyone noticed. Her outfit was fierce in spite of and she looked gorgeous! I had the pleasure of sitting down with Amy Dubois-Barnett and dishing about an ever present challenge for those of us who work in social media in some capacity particularly Bloggers. Oh, and don't think I didn't ask Amy about her shoes. Press play to eavesdrop on the raw and uncut dish.
