Behind-The-Scenes of my Photo-shoot with Tiffany Josephs Photography

I had been putting off updating my head-shots for far too long. Upon meeting Tiffany Josephs at INHMD-DC (click here for my previous published post), during which she snapped some gorgeous shots of me participating in a panel, I immediately hit her up about shooting my head-shots. My last shots I had short hair, an "even steven." I have locs now for the second time around and I'm a bit just a tad more "voluptuous." Yeah, that's the word.  Anywho, Tiffany although I asked, she graciously offered rather to shoot me. We nailed down a date and this is a sneak peek of some of the candid moments.

What started out as one look, turned into three looks, alot of fun and fabulous results. It was nostalgic for me, flexing my "wardrobe stylist" muscle. I used to do it on a freelance basis ...Back in the day. And it's one thing to outfit yourself to go out or do whatever but for a professional shoot, the attention to detail and efforts to coordinate are on a whole other level.
Look #2 - I just feel like this shot totally captures me in my essence. I'm ALWAYS laughing at ...Sumpin.
Dress: Kardashian Kollection / Neckwear: Target / Earrings (Studs): Charming Charlie / Neon Pumps: Shoxie
Look #3 - I can admittedly say I was likely being vain in this shot. I love this jumper! Also another Kardashian piece. It's just effortless and flattering. And I love anything leopard print. This was the last look and we were just playing at this point with extra time and per Tiffany's instruction, "just throw something on!"
Jumper: Kardashian Kollection / Neckwear: My own stash / Earrings: Charming Charlie
Kudos to my hairstylist and Loctician, Salih Watts of LocLov.com.  I had an idea in mind when I saw him the day prior and he executed perfectly. I just love the angle of this shot and how it shows the definition of my locs. I was probably running my mouth in this shot about ...Sumpin.

Look #1 - I think I was just trying to make sure nothing popped out of place in this one. Blame it on the "voluptuousness."
Dress: Calvin Klein / Neckwear: Traci Lynn / Earrings: Charming Charlie

Look #2 - I look totally less the "voluptuousness" and trim and slim in this shot. If only ...The power of angle and lighting.

Look #2 - Your guess is as good as mine. One of those totally oblivious moments. This look was a total pop of color. I just wanted to go in a total opposite direction from Look #1.

The grainy texture of this shot is amazing. I saw it an immediately thought of Spike Lee for some reason. Like "She's Gotta Have It look." I love it. Oh, and I look slim.

My good girlfriend and MUA, Stephanie McKenzie of PamperingJunkes.com, couldn't be on set during the shoot. We were initially only planning to shoot one look. So as we continued the shoot, I had to make sure my face stayed "beat" and nothing slid to the floor.

And to think, these are just the candid, untouched shots. What do you think?

I can't wait to share the other shots. I will follow-up this post with a Part 2 that covers why I chose the looks I did and more. I  Tiffany Josephs Photography. It was such a pleasure and a privilege to shoot with Tiffany. You will love her too. You can contact Tiffany via her website at www.TiffanyJosephsPhotography.com. Tiffany does a great job of setting the mood and establishing comfort and really works with you to achieve what you want. I can't wait to shoot with her again! The next time around, my kids will participate. Pray for me now :-).

Bag Ladies Radio is the Official Social Media Partner to #Blogalicious5!!!

The cat's outta the bag! My lips no longer have to be sealed!! The word has "officially" dropped!!! It humbles me, pleases me and excites me to say that Bag Ladies Radio is the official social media partner to this year's #Blogalicious5.

Blogalicious is one of the largest annual social media conferences celebrating diversity in blogging. It's a 3-day conference (but we party hard too), focusing on any and all elements significant to building your brand and to put it simply "getting it." I've been attending for the last three years and am excited to be participating in this capacity. It's a total testament to that which I've learned from this very annual event. Myself and the #BagLadiesLIVE cast will be bringing the experience to you live from the ATL and further enhancing the experience in a way never before done and propelling the celebration that is the 5 year anniversary of Blogalicious. More to come surely!

And might I add, don't wait! To score your tix to the par-tay, the movement, the experience that is Blogalicious, get it: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5652380422/blogaFIVEbags/3526088039

Tune into Monday's "Power Hour" during which I will be joined live by the Curator of Blogalicious, Stacey Ferguson. Get details at www.bagladiesradio.com/listen

I Am the "Social Media Belle" of Sunday's The Naturalista Hair Show

It's a take-ova! The Naturalista Hair Show goes down Sunday in Washington, DC. Not only do I have the pleasure of participating in a Blogger panel and speaking alongside the Natural Chica herself who might I add has a swoon worthy following of 28k across all platforms. Where was I? Oh, I will also be exclusively chronicling the experience on Instagram @TheNaturalistaHairShow. So I may not be the "Belle of the Ball" but I am the "Social Media Belle" ...For a day.

For the scoop on the experience that will be The Naturalista Hair Show, press play for this week's #BagLadiesLIVE OnDemand. I was joined live on-air by the Natural Chica and creators of The Naturalista Hair Show, Angela Walker and Tarin Boone for some great dish.

I Got A Man!!!

Calm down. I'm still single (ugh) but I did I did score a man to lend a voice to last nite's "Tales Of Singledom". Last nite featured an instant replay of a previously aired live segment with guest, Dating Coach & Essence Relationships Editor, Charreah K. Jackson. It is one of my fave episodes and at this stage in my dating game, I needed a bit of reassurance so I thought it would be helpful to re-air Charreah's expert advice. Sidebar: I found myself taking notes again as if I hadn't ever heard the episode.

I switched things up however and opened the live portion of last nite's show a bit differently. I twisted the arm literally of friend and Bag Ladies Radio supporter, Mr. Gee James. Gee is a Photographer and fellow blogger bud. Gee tweeted a question a day prior asking what a woman should "contribute" on a date and the responses were hilarious and I knew immediately that I had to take the question to air. Thus last nite's dish. I even had Ty Knighten join me to weigh in also. The tone was ...Well, press play and listen for yourself OnDemand.

And not to be forgotten, I had a chance to dish on one my fave topics, fashion with fellow bloggers Yvonne of PinkDollHouse.org and Ashley of AshleyGaGa.com about tonite's DC showing of "Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's."

What I Told My Son about Trayvon Martin ...

I shared the same sentiment as many upon hearing the verdict in the Trayvon Martin trial. But the fact that I'm a Mommy adds an entirely different dynamic as well as a different perspective particularly as it relates to being a black Mother to a 7 yr. old black son.

I primarily used Twitter as a platform to vent. But I also took to FB and posted the following:

Status Update
By Erin A. Martin
I hugged each of my ❤'s tonite before tucking them in but my son particularly tight tonite and cried him to sleep as I explained to him what this all meant and why my heart aches. It's unfathomable. The verdict did not surprise me in the least. I just prayed for a different outcome, for this time to be different.

But my response to my son, "God has got this." I explained to him that he didn't need to walk in fear however he needs to always be alert and aware. I explained that Trayvon Martin did nothing wrong and that George Zimmerman made an extremely poor choice. I learned per a "special edition" Mommy Midday segment featuring NBC Today Show contributor, Dr. Argie Allen that I aired in light of the Boston Marathon bombing regarding talking tragedy with your kids, that my tone and body language as a Parent is everything when it comes to how my children process events such as this. How I act will dictate how they act. As distraught as I was/am about the verdict, I didn't project anger although I was totally up front with my son regarding why it hurt and how I would never want anything like that to happen to him. My daughter even posed the question of which I tweeted:
Do you have kids? How did you address or what did you say to your children? Please share your thoughts and insight.

Press play to listen OnDemand to the awesome convo had with Dr. Argie Allen. Dr. Allen provides great tips on how to navigate discussing these types of event with your children:

"Mini-Me" Styling in FabKids Sparkle Hearts Tank and Star Print Denim Shorts

The concept of FabKids eliminates the guess work which as a #FabMom of three is music to my ears. I love adore shopping but finding the time to shop x three in addition to myself, can be challenging at times. Started by Parents including Mom and Actress, Christina Applegate, they get the limited time I don't have.

Upon creating a quick and easy style profile at fabkids.com which I found to be alot of fun actually. I further defined my first born "mini-me's" style sense which of course she gets from moi. Afterwhich per month, I receive a newly styled outfit which ships free and arrives at my door in a week's time. You get three pieces with each look for just 39.95. The style profile ensures that pieces are on point however, you do have the choice to skip a month altogether and there is no obligation to purchase.
Sparkle Hearts Tank
Star Print Denim Short
My 9 year old has an affinity for fashion and loves to have her way and create a look entirely her own. The Sparkle Hearts Tank and Star Print Denim Short were adorable. The tank is a stretch cotton style with the cutest sequined hearts. My 9 year old is tall and slim so the fit of each piece was true to size which for me is great because the same as I don't always have time to shop in-store, I also don't have time to run back and forth returning items because of inconsistent size/fit. And the versatility is awesome! "Mini-me" can run, jump, dance and skip ...

Check out my InstaVideo of "mini-me" creating her #FabKids look:
