#PassionForFashion: Are You An Emerging Talent?

Truth be told, we all are in various capacities. Claim it!! But as it relates to designing be it your own nail polish collection, fragrances, jewelry, accessories, handbags, etc, Open See is the place to be! Held twice annually by Henri Bendel at the flagship store in New York, this Designer Casting Call is a way to be seen! Todd Oldham, Anna Sui, Pamela Dennis ...Do those names ring a bell at all? Well did you know their careers were launched by Open See at a time when they were just emerging on the scene and their talent had not yet been fully recognized. Sound familiar? Open See takes place:

March 22, 2013 at 712 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY, 10019. Please be in line prior to 12pm in order to be seen. Our buyers will be viewing product for the Spring season in the following categories:
  • Cosmetics
  • Skincare
  • Fragrance
  • Gifts
  • Accessories (including but not limited to jewelry, handbags & small leather goods, belts, cold weather accessories, hats, & hair accessories)

Open See is legendary. We just love the fact that Henri Bendel extends the invitation to designers just like you, to take advantage of an opportunity to sit with buyers and have a one-on-one session in the hopes of being picked up and having your collection showcased in store. How awesome is that?! How often are you granted that level of direct accessibility? Do we really need to explain the value in this??? I think the concept speaks for itself.

Please share your comments ...Are you going to go? What time are you going to show up? What do you design?

Click here for further details on 2013 Open See.

Oooh, Ooh, Ooh, Jimmy Choo!!!

Oooooh, Ooh, Ooh, Jimmy Choo!!! This breaking news is absolutely worthy of an entirely dedicated post. If you are as much of a fiend for shoes as Bag Ladies, then waiting patiently for the debut of what promises to be an awesome collaboration may very well be one of the most difficult things you have ever done. So I guess you're likely saying get to it already, huh? What collaboration do I speak of you ask? The collaboration between Jimmy Choo and one of our fave retailers, H&M of course!!! Yup, that's right. Jimmy Choo is following in the footsteps of other famous icons and designers that have collaborated with H&M to include Madonna, Matthew Williamson and Stella McCartney and promising us "a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection." Per Founder and President, Tamara Mellon. The collection will feature a women and men's line including handbags, shoes and apparel. And if you are one of those living inside a cave, please allow Bag Ladies to jog your memory, Jimmy Choo was made even more famous by Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex & the City". I lost count of how many times the label Jimmy Choo was mentioned per episode. I think perhaps there was a contractual agreement that required Carrie Bradshaw to mention Jimmy Choo x number of times but with styles such as these how could you not utter the name Jimmy Choo every chance you get.

The collection will launch in 200 H&M stores on November 14th so mark your calendars now cause I am already envisioning the number of women that will swarm those few outlets and unless you wanna be trampled, you need be prepared. Look to mybagladies for a follow-up on how to best suit up to ensure you aren't bumped and bruised while attempting to secure what will surely be some must-have pieces. Hold your breath for the collection price points.

Best of both worlds you might say ...

You ever think I want the shape of a hobo but the size of a tote? If so, then you need a 'Softy Tobo' Bag and MARC JACOBS is giving it to you per his Spring '09 collection. Although this Bag Lady is a fan of all things MARC JACOBS, the versatility and practicality of the MARC BY MARC JACOBS 'Softy Tobo' Bag is not to be overlooked. You get the size plus the Tobo is a bag that you can carry year round!! I know I'm not the only one that at times hates having to dump all that baggage from one bag to another when seasons change in spite of my love for buying new bags. I will say the Tobo is much more tame though than other MARC JACOBS styles as the available pale grey is a sharp contrast to the usual vibrant colors of most MARC JACOBS handbags including the purple MARC by MARC JACOBS WORKWEAR style I myself often carry. But the 'Softy Tobo' can be dressed up or dressed down when you just want to be casual. The style is conducive to just being slouchy and we all have days like that. But you also get great interior and exterior pockets to keep all that baggage organized and what Bag Lady doesn't require that?

The Softy Tobo Bag is being referred to as a hybrid (not just a term for automobiles) but this Bag Lady just likes the name ...Tobo. The bag ain't half bad either ...Check it out. Available at Nordstrom for $498
