Flashback Friday: GOT THE CHECK BUT YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO FILL IN THE 000's ...

I had the pleasure of attending Loc Lov Styles 1st annual Black Excellence Gala a couple of weeks ago. An event entirely focused on celebrating accomplishments within the African American community during a time when we are so inundated with images of violent acts committed against us.

Loc Lov Styles Owner, Salih Watts founded Loc Lov five years ago and has made Washington, DC his home. Salih was previously my Loctician (prior to my doing the big chop last year).
Salih is particularly committed to giving back to the community because of his time spent as a teen peer-educator. The Black Excellence Gala celebrated three role models of black excellence and honored Life Pieces to Masterpieces, a non-profit organization that uses art to improve the lives of African American boys and young men in Washington, DC. I was privileged to attend such an inspiring event and I also had the pleasure of participating. I was live-tweeting and posting during the entirety of the event.
These young men were glorious and their presentation during the gala was inspiring.
On May 19th, Salih will be presenting Life Pieces to Masterpieces with a check. But help and support are needed to reach his goal of raising 5,000 dollars. Please see the image below for how your individual contribution of just $20 dollars can push Salih towards his 5k goal. He's already got the check so no turning back now.

I can't say enough about how proud I am of Salih's efforts. This event is just the first of what will be an annual celebration of our community. If we don't commit ourselves to take the initiative to celebrate ourselves, no one else will.
